Aikido martial art -Theale 01Martial arts training for beginners near Theale - just an 11-minute drive along the A4 at the YMCA, White Oak Aikido has been offering training in the martial art of Aikido in Reading since 1991. We run an Aikido Foundations Course over eight weeks; it's a rolling course, so you can start when you choose, and it will take you through all the basics of this exciting and powerful martial art. You can choose your course day (Thursday or Sunday), but you're also welcome to train twice a week, if you prefer.

Not sure?
There's no need to commit immediately to the course, as you can come and watch the training and/or take a free, no-commitment taster session, before you enrol for the Aikido Foundations Course. This gives you the chance to meet the teachers and talk to the other students, as well as finding out a bit more about what martial arts and Aikido are all about.

So what is Aikido all about?
Aikido has its roots in a number of the martial arts of Japan, which developed in the dominant families during the many years of fierce warfare Japan endured. However, the founder of Aikido only died in 1969, so Aikido has a modern approach, making it ideal for self-defence, whilst the founder's beliefs have also instilled Aikido with the capacity to be a method for self-development. Today, practitioners can derive a variety of  additional benefits from training in this martial art, such as
fitness, flexibility, self-confidence and relaxation, as well as finding a new approach to conflict resolution.

What about the Aikido Foundations Course?
The course costs only £60. In addition to your training once a week for the eight-week duration of the course, you'll also
have access to our Aikido training video and Aikido e-handbook. Your training will be under the guidance of both a 6th dan male and 4th dan female coach. All White Oak Aikido coaches have many years' experience in both training in and teaching this martial art and they all hold British Aikido Board coaching qualifications. We strive to provide a
non-competitive, non-aggressive structure to your training, where you'll be challenged, but encouraged, and where you can learn effective skills at your own pace. We hope to see you at training soon!
