You're very welcome
to come to a free taster class at Chirbury Aikido
to discover if this Japanese martial art is for
you. Class times are 19:00 to 21:00 every Tuesday.
You don't have to have trained before or know
anything about Aikido; you don't have to be fit or
flexible - we'll work on that with you. You must
be over 18, but we also have people in their 50s

What will I learn at
Aikido in Chirbury?
We work with methods
for throwing and immobilising an attacker with a
focus on connecting and unifying the body's power
for maximum effectiveness. We also train with Aikido
weapons, the Jo and Bokken. Training in
Aikido can lead to improved fitness, flexibility,
physical resilience and posture. At our Chirbury Aikido dojo,
we're committed to teaching you and encouraging
the development of your skills in a
non-competitive and non-aggressive
training environment. We hope that, like
us, you'll find training in Aikido, working to
improve your physical ability and working with
like-minded training partners will prove to be an amazingly enjoyable
experience.

the Chirbury Village Hall, right on the B4386,
just off the A490 Welshpool to Churchstoke road.
There is a car park for off-road parking directly
opposite the hall.

Aikido in Chirbury
is only five minutes by car from Church Stoke, six
minutes from Montgomery, 14 minutes from
Welshpool, 14 minutes from Abermule, 14 minutes from Sarn, 19
minutes from Kerry, 21 minutes from Newtown, and
30 minutes from Craven Arms, Shropshire, so we're
easy to get to if you're looking for Aikido in
Powys or Aikido in Shropshire along the Welsh
border.
How much does
Aikido cost?
Your first session
is a taster class for you to find out if you like
Aikido and the way we teach, so it's completely
free with no obligation to continue training.
After that, your first six months' membership is
£15 (waged) or £8 (unwaged). After your free
taster, you pay £20 a month to attend all
the weekly two-hour sessions or you can pay per session at £7.00
a time. Before you take your first
grading, you'll need a training uniform, which
will cost about £25.
Who are
your teachers at Chirbury Aikido?
Simon has been
training since 1980 and is graded to 6th dan. His
primary teacher was Haydn
Foster Sensei, one of the original students
of Aikido when it was first taught in the UK in
the 1950s. Trish started training at Reading
University in 1993 and holds the rank of 4th dan.
